An exciting opportunity exists for a Principal at Coburg North Primary School.      

Coburg North Primary School is situated in the northern suburbs, approximately nine kilometres from the Central Business District of Melbourne. Established in 1938, the school currently has an enrolment of 498 students. The Coburg North area has changed markedly in recent years with a shifting demographic. Young families who are proactive within the local community are replacing an ageing population. The school is currently in a period of regrowth with 111 preps in 2018. The Student Family Index (SFO) has moved since 2008, from 0.63 to 0.23 in 2018. Coburg North has a dedicated staff that are open to the many challenges and rewards that a growing school presents. The school has received funding to commence a building upgrade, which is anticipated to begin towards the end of term 2, 2018.

School Structure

The school has 23 grades. The class structure reflects the changing profile of the school with the majority of students in the early years.

Specialists

Specialist teachers provide programs in Visual Arts, Music, PE, ICT and Italian. Reading Recovery is available for all grade one students who require the support.

Curriculum

The school provides a sequential seven-year integrated program. The development of Literacy and Numeracy skills are a priority.

The Strategic Plan goals:

  • Develop clear expectations and positive respectful relationships across the school community
  • Continue to embed a school wide approach to Teaching, Learning & Assessment practices to improve student outcomes through differentiation across the curriculum

These are supported by teacher curriculum teams in Maths, Literacy, Digital technologies, Powerful Learning, Welfare, Sustainability and Reconciliation.

Behaviour and Welfare

Our school is committed to developing positive relationships following the Restorative Practices model. We believe that when students have positive relationships in the school environment they can focus on their daily learning. The rights and responsibilities of individuals and the group is the focus encompassing the school values of Learning, Enjoyment, Responsibility, Trust, Respect, Friendliness, Confidence and Honesty. A Peer Support Leaders Program was introduced in 2014.

Teacher Development

Teacher development is a priority at Coburg North Primary. External Literacy and Numeracy coaches are employed to work with individual teachers, teams and coordinators to support their professional growth. Curriculum teams provide regular Professional learning sessions for their peers, and staff professional learning is also supported by a generous budget to access external professional learning.

Integration

The school has a small number of students on funding supported by a highly professional and dedicated ES staff.
