Position Details
Reporting Directly to: OSHC Educational Leader
Hours: Up to 17.5 hours per week school terms, up to 38 hours per week school holidays (until and inclusive of 25 January 2019)
Award/Level: Children’s Services Award; Level based on qualifications and experience
As an Assistant Educator, you will be responsible for working with educators and children to support the development of a program of activities and experiences that support children’s learning at the service. You will have knowledge and experience about how children learn, how disability influences learning and about quality practice. You will be working directly with children who have a disability and helping Distinctive Options to provide data to the Department of Education about how OSHC programs can be designed to support children with a disability.
Selection Criteria
Required
- Demonstrated experience in working within a children’s service OR at a disability service

- Available to work Monday to Friday during school terms between 3.00pm and 6.00pm
- Available to work Monday to Friday during school holidays between 7.00am and 6.00pm
- Commitment to protecting children as per the Child Safe Standards
Desirable
- Hold, or be studying, a qualification approved by ACECQA for the school aged care
- Diploma in Children’s Services, Childhood Education, Youth Work, Childcare, etc.
- Certificate III or IV in Children’s Services, Childhood Education, Youth Work, Childcare, etc.
- Current First Aid Qualification (i.e. HLTAID004 – Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting, Anaphylaxis and Asthma Management training)
- Good understanding of programming and planning for school aged children
- Ability to work with families, children and educators in a culturally competent manner
- Ability to work cooperatively and flexibly within a team environment
- Ability to support the development of innovative programs and activities which cater for the range of abilities, learning styles and needs of children in the After School program
- Experience in using QikKids and StoryPark
- Work effectively in a collaborative team environment
- Engage effectively with children and families
- Positive, enthusiastic, proactive and a high level of initiative
Position Objectives
- Support the development, preparation, implementation and evaluation of a stimulating, diverse and developmentally appropriate program
- Actively support every child to participate in the program and ensure that the program promotes children’s agency, choices and influence
- Create records and ensure all records are maintained accurately for each child
- Record observations of individual children or groups and record observations in children’s portfolios
- Ensure a safe environment is maintained for both staff and children
- Assist in provision of medication, mealtime and toileting assistance, as required
