Teacher Special Education - Hopetown School Position Information Hopetown School is a School for Specific Purposes, supporting the needs of students (Yr 3 -12) with emotional disturbance and other complex behaviour and support needs. Established in 1985, HopeTown has expansive grounds in a quiet, semi-rural environment bordered by bushland. All students have diagnoses of mental health disabilities, and are enrolled at Hopetown School because of their difficulties in coping in a mainstream school setting. Most students have multiple diagnoses, present with challenging behaviours and are considered at risk of disengagement from learning. The maximum student population is 56 students. Classes are comprised of 7 students with a teacher and School Learning Support Officer. Approximately 30% of the students are in Out of Home Care and 20% of the school’s students are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Selection Criteria Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with emotional disturbances and complex behaviour and support needs in a 'trauma aware' setting that focusses on social and emotional student outcomes. Demonstrated excellence in effective differentiation of curriculum delivery to personalise learning, including alternate/experiential learning programs that cater for the needs of all students. Capacity to implement evidence based and innovative pedagogies, including technology, to improve academic outcomes. Demonstrated ability in strong classroom management skills and wellbeing practices with an understanding of what drives behaviour. Outstanding teamwork, highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with students, parents/carers and external agencies Demonstrated capacity to implement the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and directions to support Aboriginal students and families.
