Position Information
Tomaree High School is part of a unique educational facility in NSW. Tomaree Education Centre incorporates Tomaree High School, Tomaree Public School and the Tomaree Campus of the Hunter Institute of Technology (TAFE). Enrolment for Tomaree High School is approximate 1158 with 90 Aboriginal Students enrolled. Over 2000 people from ages 5 to 70+ attend the centre each day. Co-operation and collaboration between the three stakeholders is a feature of this facility.
Tomaree High School provides a comprehensive education to the youth of the Tomaree Peninsula where emphasis is placed on student welfare, academic achievement, sporting and social development, and use of technology in learning in an ordered student friendly environment.
Tomaree High is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (P.B.L.) school. PBL is a school-wide behaviour initiative which employs a whole school systems approach to address problem behaviour and reduce its effect on student outcomes and on the school community as a whole. PBL encourages positive behaviour from students, which has been shown to improve their self-concept and motivation to learn.
Selection Criteria
Approval to teach students with learning and support needs (secondary) and/or experience teaching students with learning and support needs (secondary) in regular classes. Demonstrated ability to provide specialist assistance to students in regular classes with additional learning and support needs, and their teachers.
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with parents, staff and students while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement individualised learning plans and case manage students.
Capacity to contribute to school wide professional learning by providing specialist advice and mentoring to support teachers to enhance classroom practice for students with additional needs.
