Aboriginal Literacy Support Worker

 

Kempsey Adventist School (KAS) is now inviting applications for a part-time Aboriginal Literacy Support Worker position commencing August 2018.

 

KAS is seeking an Aboriginal Literacy Support Worker with the desire to be part of a data-led, high-functioning and collaborative teaching team which is committed to supporting the teaching of core literacy skills to the school's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

N.B This is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identified position. 

Essential Criteria

  • Experience and/or specialist expertise, in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in a structured educational setting.
  • Well-developed literacy skills which enable appropriate levels of support when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in the areas of grammar, punctuation, reading, writing and spelling.
  • Experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, young people and communities, including applying a well-developed understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • The capacity to develop an understanding of relevant New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA) syllabus requirements.
  • A demonstrable commitment to working within the ministry of Adventist Education as defined by the Adventist Schools Australia statement on Special Character available from http://asa.adventist.edu.au/index.php/Resources2/Special-character
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset through a willingness to integrate new technologies and methodologies into literacy support practices to ensure high levels of engagement and improved learning outcomes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Positive communication and interpersonal relationship skills with students, parents/carers, the broader school community and colleagues.
  • Be a reflective, lifelong learner.
  • Current WWCC clearance.

Part-time: 30 hours per week (school term weeks, plus 4 weeks accrued annual leave. School term break stand down applies).

 

Salary range: $31,000 - $37,000 per annum, pro-rata, dependent upon the skills and experience of the successful applicant. (Plus superannuation).

 

Superannuation: An employer contribution of 9.5% applies.

 

Term of position: An initial maximum term contract until 14 December 2018.
