Teacher Special Education - Illawarra Sports High School

Position Information

Illawarra Sports High School is a designated specialist sports high school (694 enrolments, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and four autism support classes). The school draws the majority of its students from the southern Wollongong suburbs, but enrols an increasing number of students from the larger Illawarra area who access specialist sports programs. The school offers a broadly based comprehensive curriculum from Years 7-12 and has a strong record of achievements in academic, cultural and sporting pursuits. The school has a strong focus on using innovative teaching and learning strategies and fostering leadership skills in all students and staff. The school receives Resource Allocation Model Equity funding for Aboriginal Background, Socio-economic Background, English Language Proficiency and Low Level Adjustment for Disability students. These funds are used to support literacy, numeracy and student engagement initiatives.

Selection Criteria

Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Experience and/or willingness to write and deliver high quality teaching and learning programs, across a range of subjects, to students in a support setting.

Outstanding behaviour management skills and demonstrated experience dealing with a wide range of behaviours in support settings.

Understanding and sensitivity to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and students from low socio-economic status communities.
