About the role
A unique and rare opportunity has arisen for a talented and experienced Supply Chain Manager to drive and lead Procurement, Supplier Strategy and business outcomes.
This pivotal position on the Powell Senior Management team is responsible for creating and implementing cost-effective procurement strategy and associated activities. The successful candidate will manage the supplier interface during critical and complex supply chain negotiations, ensuring the utmost professionalism and effectiveness representing Powell across our Supply, logistical and distribution networks.
The Supply Chain Manager will be accountable for a procurement team of 4 located at Coopers Plains working closely with the Product Management Team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies that will enhance supplier relationships and lower the cost of doing business
- Manage local and import supplier ordering
- Monitor Company min/max levels and align with the Company's operational and customer requirements
- Monitor and liaise with key stakeholders in relation to supplier backorders, stock allocation to back orders and supplier stock availability
- Control spend and build a culture of long-term saving on purchasing costs
- Recommend optimal transportation modes, routing, equipment or frequency
- Liaise with freight forwarders and custom brokers and arrange the movement of cargo
- Plan or implement improvements to internal or external logistics systems or processes
- Negotiate the most effective freight costs and allocation of freight costs
- Negotiate with suppliers or customers to improve supply chain efficiency or sustainability
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate logistics with business systems or processes, such as customer sales, order management, accounting, or shipping
- Analyse the financial impact of proposed logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or mixes, or carriers
About you
- Experience or knowledge of hose and fittings industry would be an advantage
- At least 3 years experience in a Purchasing Manager role or similar
- Qualification in supply chain management is desirable
- Strategic thinking skills
- Advanced MS Excel skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Proven history of accurate product forecasting skills
- Exceptional time management skills
- Ability to work autonomously in a busy environment
- Positive team player who can communicate and work closely with sales and operational staff, to balance the conflicting demands of cost of stock and stock-outs
