What you'll do..

This direct line reporting relationship to the National Safety, Quality and Environment Manager is to aid in the provision of efficiencies with respect to program standardisation and implementation whilst providing a unified approach to SQE management to the relevant state regulatory authorities.

  • Support and contribute to the continuous improvement and implementation of safety, quality and environment system strategies, programs, projects, processes and promotion of a proactive approach
  • Mentor, coach, guide and provide expertise on day to day SQE aspects of business activities and projects, to both management and employees as required.
  • Advise, facilitate and assist in the full implementation of Zero Harm within the business.
  • Analyse reported WHS&E data and assist in monthly reporting requirements, providing advice to line management.
  • Provide administrative and technical support to the Management Team in relation to all aspects of the BMS (Business Management System) and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate, managing and participate in audit programs required for the company management system
  • Monitor all required workplace inspections and behavioural safety observation (interaction) schedules and communicate to all participants.
  • Conduct or assist with hazard identification, risk analysis and assessments, to prioritise risk for management attention and to advise on or support prevention control measures and remedial actions required.
  • Conduct or assist with incident investigation (ICAM), make recommendations and produce reports to improve safety Participate in meetings of consultative committees (WHS Committees)
  • Facilitate and or assist in the delivery of safety and environment related training programs as required.
  • Assist with effective injury management and return to work programs in accordance with the Return to Work Program and in partnership with line management.
  • Continually facilitate and encourage improved safety performance in the work place as demonstrated by participating in observations, inspections, working groups and regular general interactions with staff, coaching, mentoring and providing SQE advice where appropriate.

About you..

  • Tertiary qualifications in a safety related discipline eg Undergraduate, Post Graduate, Diploma or Associate Diploma level, alternatively significant experience in Work Health & Safety or Environment in a Transport based industrial environment, coupled with a commitment to acquire the required tertiary qualifications, in an appropriate time frame. 
  • Appropriate WorkCover Return to Work Coordination course or commitment to obtain same.
  • Experience in Work Health & Safety and a demonstrable record of delivering improvement. Sound understanding of relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement corporate processes and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Proven analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills. 
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to effectively liaise with both staff and management. 
  • Self-starter with ability to prioritise. Able to meet agreed timelines.
  • Demonstrated integrity and experience in handling confidential, sensitive information.
  • Ability to build business relationships, also with the aptitude to work within a team or independently.
  • Proven negotiation skills with the ability to persuade managers, supervisors and peers to embrace safety as an essential component of good business practice.
  • Sound interpersonal, influencing and networking skills with both internal and external contacts.
  • High level of commitment to customer service
  • Proficient with Microsoft products, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to obtain Rail Safety Critical Worker (Category 1)
  • Must be able to obtain a National Police Check
  • Must be able to obtain a NSW Working With Children Check

Ideally you would also possess:

  • Some knowledge of environmental management principles and issues.
  • An awareness of the requirements relating to operational safety, security and emergency procedures within the transport industry.
  • Experience in RTW coordination.
  • Internal Auditing qualification or experience
