Overview
We are currently seeking a Specialist - Secondary Break to join our Mining team at Cadia East Underground. In this role you will assist operational teams to conduct secondary break activities in a manner which reduces exposure to personnel in front of drawpoints, maximises safe production and cashflow from Australia’s largest underground mine.
In this exciting role, your duties will include:
- Working closely with all underground production crews to minimise exposure and maximise safety of our personnel when working around drawpoints.
- Upskill operators to safely increase amount of available drawpoints which will assist in maximising cave draw compliance.
- Assisting with management and improvement of underground costs in relation to secondary break.
- Working alongside the fleet maintenance team to improve equipment reliability, efficiency and comfort for operators.
- Ensure effective contractor management to ensure maximum value is being delivered, with tasks being appropriately prioritised.
- Proactive involvement in Newcrest’s Business Improvement tools and systems.
This is a permanent position that is residentially based in Orange, New South Wales. The successful applicant will be required to relocate to the local area.

About You
Our ideal candidate has significant underground mining experience and is a leader who undertakes all tasks with a high regard to safety standards and contributes to continued improvement of safety performance. Experience in secondary break practices, knowledge of block caving and experience supervising underground mining crews is advantageous.
