The Purpose of Your Role

To provide support to the business in relation to Health, Safety and Environmental impacts.  This will require you to liaise with various stakeholders both on site and in Perth Head Office.

 

‘What you have to do’

This is a general scope of duties for the position of HSE Coordinator.  The position of HSE Coordinator can include (but is not limited to) any of the duties listed below:

 

  • Coordinate all HSE requirements across our operations throughout Australia
  • Review and conduct Risk Analysis for tasks and equipment
  • Update and maintain all HSE policies and procedures; inclusive of SWP’s, SWMS and Systems Integration
  • Experience in completing incident investigations and creating improvement actions
  • Compile and provide report statistical information on a regular basis to Project Managers and / or Directors
  • Maintain all site safety and HSE management systems
  • Maintain compliance with legislation, company and client HSE requirements
  • Update and maintain data station in relation to policies, procedures, incidents and actions
  • Develop toolbox / lean board presentations to be rolled out site wide
  • Liaise with site management in relation to injury management and return to work plans
  • Undertake workers compensation processes and liaise with company insurers; ensuring compliance with legislation

 Occupational Health and Safety Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all regulatory, company and client-driven safety policies and procedures
  • Assist Project Manager/s with OHS initiatives such as conducting Toolbox Talks, enforcing incident reporting requirements and conducting Pre-Start meetings with immediate staff members
  • Ensure that staff members are adequately trained and competent to perform essential job functions in a safe manner maintaining records management
  • Ensure that all staff conduct themselves in a safe and professional manner at all times including attitude and dedication to their work assignment
  • Stop any work activity or process that demonstrates potential harm to the well-being and safety of any person or property
  • Ensure that all plant, equipment and appliances conform to statutory and manufacturer requirements
  • Participate in all company and client-driven EH&S
  • Participation in company and client-driven activities, drills, pre-job starts, meetings and pre-use equipment inspections
  • Consistent access and review of regulatory, company and client-driven EH&S manuals, policies and procedures
  • Report of any incidents, near hits, procedure deficiencies and poor working conditions to their immediate supervisor
  • Dedication and promotion of a safe working environment throughout the workplace
  • Work in a safe and professional manner at all times including attitude and dedication to their work assignment

 Environmental Responsibilities

  • Conduct audits that comply with the business’s Environmental Policy and procedures
  • Minimise the use and waste of materials and resources including: energy, water and consumables
  • Prevent the release of pollutants into the atmosphere, into the land or into the water (surface or ground) – includes smoke, storm water, chemicals, oils and any other pollutants
  • Dispose of wastes appropriately, utilising waste management programs where they are available
  • Utilise pre-start meetings, toolbox talks and other training sessions as tools for effective communication
  • Participate in environmental programs, as directed by the Operations Director
  • Identify and report any environmental hazard / incident / improvement to direct supervisor or manager in a timely manner

 Knowledge, Skills and Experience Needed to Perform This Role

  • Minimum of Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
  • 2-4 years’ experience as an HSE Coordinator
  • A clear understanding of the OSH Act 1984 and WHS Act 2011 vs. the state of Australia they relate to
  • Experience and / or formal training in injury and return to work management
  • Greater general knowledge within a mining environment
  • Experience communicating with personnel at all levels of the business
  • Ability to influence and coach Project Managers and employees in HSE best practice
