Stawell Gold Mine is an underground gold mine located in Stawell, 236 km north-west of Melbourne. This historic region is known for its rich heritage in the exploration, discovery and production of gold.

Stawell Gold Mine is now transitioning to an exciting new phase of expanding and harnessing existing exploration programs with the aim of resuming gold production following a period of suspended operations.

To service the growing needs of our exploration / operations readiness program, we currently have an opening for a HSE Advisor as part of our growing team of mining professionals. This residential position will be a permanent full-time engagement on a 5 days on / 2 days off roster (Monday to Friday).

Reporting to the HSE Manager, you will be responsible for assisting with the planning, implementation and auditing of the site Health & Safety Management Systems for surface and underground operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and participating in risk assessments/JSA's for projects and works
  • Provide assistance and guidance in the investigation of incidents
  • Participate in site audit and inspection processes
  • Actively participate in mentoring and coaching of personnel to establish a sustained safety   culture
  • Assist site departments with the development of safe work procedures and guidelines
  • Support managers and supervisors to ensure that all safety requirements are adhered to and in compliance with all statutory regulations
  • Co-ordinate communication and feedback processes for site
  • Implement and maintain effective document control and record keeping processes
  • Provide training and undertake competency assessments for site personnel and contractors

Beneficial and required qualifications, skills, experience for the role:

  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a similar role within the mining or construction industries
  • Relevant Health and Safety qualifications with a minimum Cert IV in WHS
  • Cert IV Trainer and Assessor qualification
  • Experience in Risk Management
  • Experience in procedural (safety) development
  • Experience with data analysis, trending & reporting
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence or equivalent
  • An Australian permanent resident
  • Safety Auditing qualification (Lead Auditor) and an awareness of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act & Regulations (Desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience in ICAM investigations (Desirable)
  • Mining Underground or Processing experience (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of Dangerous Goods regulations and auditing (Desirable)
