SIMEC Mining, a wholly owned subsidiary of GFG Alliance has operations in Whyalla, South Australia and Tahmoor, New South Wales. Our commodity portfolio consists of mining and mineral processing plants from pit to port. Tahmoor Colliery is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Tahmoor Colliery has been in operation since 1979 and has a total workforce of approximately 350 personnel. Tahmoor Colliery is located near the scenic Southern Highlands of NSW, and only a short 45-minute drive to the idyllic beaches of the South Coast NSW.

We are currently seeking experienced Deputies to join our underground mine team. Reporting to your Shift Undermanager, you will demonstrate initiative, leadership and authority for your team to achieve planned production targets and the highest level of safety performance.

Your duties with involve:

  • Execute the daily mine plan and drive performance to achieve shift targets;
  • Contribute to the planning and allocation of resources within your designated area;
  • Conduct work in accordance with statutory and legislative responsibilities;
  • Complete daily shift reports to detail operational activities;
  • Maintain statutory competency in accordance with the WHS Regs 2014.
  • Drive safety culture and compliance through the implementation and directive of safety initiatives and action plans;
  • Manage your team through leading by example and insisting on the highest levels of standards;
  • Work as part of a team to continually implement business improvement opportunities.

The successful candidate will possess a NSW 3rd Class Deputy Certificate of Competency. You will have 5+years qualified working experience within the Underground Coal Mining industry. You will have a sound understanding of WHS legislative requirements and safety management systems. Your essential attributes will include good leadership skills, motivation, attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, safety focused, and the ability to work in a high pressured environment.
