Nexus Mining is a leading contractor in the underground coal sector, offering the most extensive range of specialised services and skills to the coal industry in New South Wales.  Our range of services includes contract development work, longwall relocations, civil excavations and general mine services work.

Nexus Mining is seeking to employ a highly motivated and suitably skilled and experienced Safety and Training Advisor to accommodate the needs of a long term contract within the Illawarra region.

Reporting to the Health Safety and Training Manager – you will be accountable for the safe and efficient management of projects through the effective leadership and continue to grow and create value

We are currently seeking a Safety & Compliance Training Coordinator to join our Operations team. You will be working in a team environment that shares knowledge and skills and have exposure to challenging work that will enhance your career development. As an entrusted key leader of our operation you will be required to ensure the successful delivery of the business plan as well support key stakeholders to guide our safety culture and Nexus Mining values. With a team of four direct reports, you will have leadership experience, be able to communicate effectively and build good stakeholder relationships. 

The successful applicant will report to the Health & Safety Manager, your key responsibilities will include:

Drive positive change and safety performance to lead and promote our safe work programs and strive for Safety Citizenship to support Nexus Mining values

• Responsible for continuous development of a positive team culture in line with Nexus Mining Health and Safety policies, compliance and relevant legislation including providing expert advice to line managers and the workforce
• Responsible for providing visible leadership, and ensure incidents are reported in accordance with internal Health and Safety management systems, legislative requirements and timelines
• Support stakeholder groups and teams including communicating with frontline employees and first line managers

• Conduct incident and accident investigations, audits, safety inspections and risk assessments
• Prepare and maintain reports and documentation
• Assist in the Coordination of injury management and return to work programs

The successful candidate will have some of the following attributes (candidates that do not meet all of the below requirements may still be considered):

• Tertiary Qualification Diploma (Minimum of Cert IV in WHS)
• Cert IV in Training and Assessment  
• Return to Work certificate and minimum experience 2 years
• First Aid Certificate, Auditing qualifications would be beneficial but not essential
• Demonstrated experience in a similar role and relevant work experience within the resources sector and mine production
• Demonstrated experience in incident investigation and risk assessment
• Strong practical and theoretical understanding of work health and safety matters from both a strategic and operational perspectives
• High level of interpersonal skills demonstrated through achieving negotiated outcomes, and liaising with all levels of an organisation.
• Experience in safety training (mining related training)
• Intermediate level Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel)
