David Jones is presenting an opportunity for a Merchandise Systems Training and Development lead to play an integral role in co-ordinating the training and development process for our Merchandise systems, ensuring key business objectives are met. Working within the Merchandise team, you will be responsible for the design, development and planning of direct orientation and training for new employees.

Please note internally this role is known as a Merchandise Subject Matter Educator.

In this role you will:

• Assess training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, or consultations with managers or instructors
• Design and create training manuals, online learning modules, and course materials
• Monitor and evaluate training programs / training materials to ensure they are current and effective / to identify potential for improvement
• Deliver training to employees using a variety of instructional techniques
• Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling classes, setting up systems and equipment, and coordinating enrolment
• Collaboration with subject matter experts and the management of the organization to research future needs, and the hands-on training of learners.
• Working with cross functionally with stakeholders to deliver current merchandise planning processes aligned to business strategies

• Excellent ability to communicate, both in being an attentive listener to trainee questions and in being able to deliver responses that are both accurate and easy to understand
• Strong critical thinking skills aid in assessing the strengths and weaknesses of approaches to problems and the viability of various solutions, and in helping trainees develop these skills themselves to get the most out of their experience
• Knowledge of IT and systems, specifically communicating using digital presentation, is essential
• Possess a strong retail and commercial acumen
• Have a demonstrated ability to work alongside all levels of the business
• Have a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work within a fast paced environment whilst balancing competing interests
• Experience within a similar role, alternatively at a Senior Merchandise Planner / Buying position, essential
