Hope & Glory is delighted to be working with the Nillumbik Shire Council in their search for a talented, hands-on and energetic Corporate Affairs & Communications Lead. This is a permanent, full time position located at the Council offices in Greensborough and is an exciting opportunity for a savvy corporate affairs practitioner.  

As the Corporate Affairs & Communications Lead you will drive the delivery of critical corporate affairs services for Council and positively promote the great work being done by the organisation for the Nillumbik community.
You will undertake a range of activities including (but not limited to):
  • Building and managing a team of three (3) communications specialists
  • Developing overarching strategic communications plans
  • Managing reactive media scenarios and issues
  • Initiating proactive media and publicity opportunities
  • Developing and executing internal communications initiatives
  • Providing accurate and strategic advice to the Mayor and Councillors, Chief Executive Officer and Senior Management team
  • Acting as the communications lead on major projects being undertaken across Council.
To be considered for this role, your application likely shows the following:
  • Extensive experience across media relations, corporate affairs, internal and external communications and issues management
  • A solid understanding of local government and the issues it faces
  • A strong awareness of the social, political and business landscape
  • Excellent understanding of the media and the news cycle 
  • Strong people leadership experience with the ability to support and empower a team
  • Sharp writing skills and the ability to craft content for a range of audiences, including digital channels
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing positive stakeholder relationships, both internally and externally
  • A flexible, adaptable and resilient attitude
  • The ability to work in a complex, fast-paced operating environment
  • Relevant degree qualifications in journalism, public relations, communications and/or substantial experience in a similar role.  
As an applicant, you are an experienced communications and media practitioner who has worked in or with government. You show the capacity and interest to deliver great outcomes for the people who live and work in the area covered by Nillumbik Shire Council. A current driver license is necessary for this role as there will be travel required.
