GEMS Event Management Australia is a multi award winning Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) managing conferences and special events across Australia. We are based in Five Dock, NSW and are looking for a graduate who is keen to kick start their event management career.
We currently have a vacancy for a Conference Assistant to work on a range of projects that will be held across Australia, and are looking for someone who is interested in pursuing a long term career in the business events industry.
The primary responsibility of the role will be to be the first point of contact for all of our delegates who register or require accommodation at our client conferences. You will also be responsible for liaising with venues, presenters, sponsors and trade exhibitors.
One of the best parts of the job is opportunity to work across Australia. In the last three months, our team have travelled to Hobart, Adelaide, Cairns, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Canberra and Melbourne to stage conferences. 2019 is already shaping up to be even better.
Applicants will have undertaken tertiary studies in Event Management - If you do not have either a degree, diploma or Cert IV majoring in Event Management, your application WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
The successful candidate will have:

- have some level of experience in working in a venue e.g. banquet operations
- knowledge of EventsAir will be an advantage
You will need to be a team player who has the ability to work at the direction of our Project Managers and who can undertake tasks with minimal supervision. A requirement of the position is that the successful applicant will be required to undertake interstate travel for some of our events.
This is an entry level position with the opportunity to grow into an event management role. The ideal candidate will be in the early stages of their event management career, with a keen interest in business events and a willingness to learn. You will also need your own transport, particularly when working on site.
The role is a 5 day a week position and a salary package of $45,000 including superannuation. In addition, you will have the opportunity to:
- Travel - We work across Australia and you will travel with our team delivering conference programs across the country.
- Take a break - when you are required to be onsite for an event and this falls on a weekend or public holiday, a day in lieu will be provided - so an extra day or two at the destination can be arranged.
- Learn more and enhance your skills - we provide all our team with the chance to attending conferences and training in event management, undertake destination visits and undertake professional accreditation which is key to solidifying your place in the event management industry.
- Stay up to date - GEMS are members of Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) and the Professional Conference Organisers Association (PCOA).
- Annual Retreat - our offices close for 3 days in each year and we take all our staff away for three days to plan for the next year, have some fun and strengthen the bond between the team.
