Detail information about job Optical Microscopy BioImage Analyst. Terms and conditions vacancy

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Optical Microscopy BioImage Analyst to join Dr Christian Eggeling’s team at the Wolfson Imaging Centre Oxford, located at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine (WIMM). You will work with the present BioImage Analyst, Dr Dominic Waithe, and will work towards developing and maintaining computational analysis solutions to solve the needs of the institute.

You will be developing and maintaining analysis tools for data produced by the optical microscopes, providing a key role in many scientific programmes within the WIMM. Besides setting up image analysis platforms with a strong focus on single-molecule, super-resolution, multi-colour and dynamical (live-cell) microscopy, responsibilities will include teaching staff and students in the use of data analysis tools and to provide expert advice where applicable.

You will have a PhD in biological, physical, computer science or engineering sciences. Extensive experience in the analysis of optical microscopy, together with experience in developing analysis pipelines, especially related to image analysis, is essential. Knowledge of image processing algorithms is essential whereas knowledge of biophysical and machine learning techniques is also highly desirable. A fundamental understanding of both physics and biology with excellent communication and interpersonal skills is also required.

This is a full-time appointment for 18 months in the first instance, funded by MRC, BBSRC and EPSRC, Wellcome Trust and Oxford EPA Cephalosporin Fund research councils, with the plan to extend it further on.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.

Only applications received before 12.00 noon on 27 September 2017 will be considered.

Please note that the University of Oxford's retirement policy is changing. With effect from October 1 2017, all employees at Grade 8 and above will have a retirement age of 68, and all employees at Grades 6 and 7 will no longer have a set retirement age.
