Detail information about job Research Fellow in Advanced Vehicle Dynamics and Energy Management. Terms and conditions vacancy
Applications are invited for an 8-month postdoctoral research position (with the possibility of a 2-year extension) starting on 2nd January 2018, to explore the possibility of the advanced optimal control of active systems for enhancing vehicle safety, handling and energy efficiency, in fully electric vehicle layouts characterised by individual powertrains.
This post is part of an industrially funded project that aims to develop new control systems for fully electric vehicles with individually controlled motors. A budget for travel and other expenses will be provided, and there will be several opportunities to attend related conferences. The research will be carried out with collaborators of an industrial funder. The outcomes of the projects will be evaluated on a state-of-the-art vehicle demonstrator.
The successful candidate must have a strong background in vehicle dynamics and should be a holder of a PhD degree in one of the areas of automotive engineering, mechanical engineering or control systems engineering. Also, experience in the following areas is highly desirable:
The appointee will join the Centre for Automotive Engineering of the Mechanical Engineering Sciences Department, which has research interests in a wide range of topics including active vehicle dynamics, tyre dynamics, electric powertrains, vehicle aerodynamics and novel transmission systems for electric and hybrid electric vehicles. The research group owns a state-of-the-art Hardware-In-the-Loop electric axle rig that is unique in the UK.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the project coordinator, Prof Aldo Sorniotti (tel: +44 (0)1483 689688, email [email protected]), for further information.
Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£30,688) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate. Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£31,604).
