We seek an enthusiastic and highly motivated Research Assistant/Associate to join the laboratory of Dr Seamus Holden. Our interdisciplinary lab investigates basic principles of cell division and spatial organization in bacteria. To achieve this we develop novel experimental methods based on single molecule & super-resolution microscopy, microfabrication and microfluidics. This project will focus on using super-resolution microscopy to probe the function of the bacterial cytoskeleton in cell division. We seek a Research Assistant/Associate to push the resolution and quantitative abilities of super-resolution microscopy, and to use these methods to reveal the organization and ultrastructure of bacterial cytoskeletal filaments. This project will ultimately inform the search for novel antibiotics that directly target bacterial cell division.
This post is for 3 years, and is funded by the Wellcome Trust. The position is based at the Centre for Bacterial Cell Biology within the Institute for Cell and Molecular Biosciences at Newcastle University.
ICaMB has recently been awarded a Bronze Athena Swan Charter Award for Women in Science as detailed on our web site (http://www.ncl.ac.uk/camb)
