An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an expanding and ambitious Department during the next phase of its development. The position of Executive Office Manager is a new post and has been created to assist the Department in providing excellent administrative support to its academic and administrative leadership.

The role of Executive Office Manager offers the opportunity for involvement at the heart of the Department in a busy, challenging and fast-moving environment. You will head the newly structured administrative assistant team, and will be responsible for line management of seven staff, including team building and training and development. Effective co-ordination of the team is essential to ensure both core activities and additional projects are assigned to support the smooth running of departmental activities.

This challenging and responsible role requires high level administrative and secretarial skills combined with a professional, proactive and flexible approach to work. You will have a “can do” attitude combined with the experience, skills and attributes to handle a wide range of confidential information with discretion, tact and diplomacy and to be comfortable with change and shifting priorities. 

You will have a clear understanding of both the organisational and governance structure of the Department and University. This position requires a keen awareness of organisational realities and the interpersonal skills to relate to and communicate with all levels within the University, external agencies and constituencies (deans, faculty, students, staff, alumni, community-based organisations etc).

As the most senior post within the administrative assistant team, the Executive Office Manager will be a role model for other administrative staff of the Department in leading by example. You will be required to have demonstrable experience as a Senior Executive Officer/Manager or a similar post at a senior level with proven ability to develop good working relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and staff. Demonstrable evidence of managing a team including their performance and development, is an essential requirement of the role. Experience of working in a University research or clinical department or hospital setting would be advantageous.
