Research position at an ERC project
The University of Bergen, Centre for Research on Discretion and Paternalism, announce a researcher position in political science in relation to a European Research Council Consolidator project. The main objectives for the Discretion project are to reveal the mechanisms for exercising discretion, and improve the understanding of paternalism across societies. The project employs an innovative methodological approach, with multilevel and cross- country studies. For example, we will conduct the largest cross-national study on decision-making in child protection to date, lifting our understanding of international differences to a new level. By conducting randomized survey experiments, both with decision-makers in the system and the general population, the project will generate unique data on the possible causal mechanisms explaining differences in discretionary decisions.
We seek a researcher with a Ph.D. in political science or in the social sciences (when clearly related to the project topic). We seek a person with very good knowledge and experience using quantitative methods, as well as experience with comparative studies. Furthermore, we seek a person with a keen interest to engage in independent research on topics related to the research project, and, an ability to work independently as well as a team member, cooperating actively with other researchers.
We can offer an immensely interesting and devoted research group in Bergen, with high ambitions and a solid and wide international network of researchers. The staff at the two departments of political science at the University of Bergen is highly international, publishes in high end journals, and has lately secured several large EU grants.
The University of Bergen is located in the centre of the city of Bergen; close to beautiful nature, mountains ready for hiking and skiing, and surrounded by the sea. The Norwegian welfare state is very welcoming for families and individuals, providing fair working life conditions for employees.
