The Department for Children and Young People’s Health at Birmingham City University has an exciting opportunity for the role of Head of Department. We are dedicated to achieving excellent student satisfaction in teaching and learning and we are keen to become national leaders in the delivery of undergraduate and post graduate education for Children’s Nurses and CYP practitioners. This role requires a highly motivated, organised individual who can lead and manage the team, working within BCU values, ensuring fair and equitable workload distribution and performance management. The post holder will be responsible for the academic leadership of the department. Together with managing the design and development of curricula whilst making a significant contribution to the leadership, management and enhancement of teaching and learning strategies, academic standards and leading edge practice.

As Head of Department you will not only lead the CYP Health team, but you will work in partnership with the School Management Team to work towards the School, Faculty and University targets of achieving subject gold within the Teaching Excellence Framework, developing our research portfolio and to continue to improve our national position within the Complete University League tables. Liaison with key practice placement providers at a strategic level is essential to ensure the success of the programmes we deliver and therefore excellent interpersonal and communication skills are crucial to the role.

Applicants must hold or be working towards a PhD/Doctorate plus hold a post graduate qualification in relevant discipline and have current registration with the NMC. Applicants should have a developing portfolio of research/scholarly activity.
