Detail information about job Doctoral Candidate Position in Optics and Photonics. Terms and conditions vacancy
Aalto University is a community of bold thinkers where science and art meet technology and business. We are committed to identifying and solving grand societal challenges and building an innovative future. Aalto University has six schools with nearly 20 000 students and more than 400 professors. Our campuses are located in Espoo and Helsinki, Finland.
Doctoral Candidate Position in Optics and Photonics
We are looking for a doctoral student to join our group for experimental work on ultrafast optical polarization phenomena and photon-correlation imaging using multicolor optical fields. The candidate will develop experimental methods for assessment of light polarization dynamics of natural and multicolor laser sources, as well as demonstrate experimentally an aberration-independent optical imaging method based on photon correlation detection. The research can have significant impact especially on the fields of polarimetry, optical imaging and spectroscopy, optical information processing, and the characterization of natural and artificial light sources. Preference will be given to candidates with good understanding of basic optics and photonics and experience in designing and conducting optical experiments.
The research will be done within the Finnish Academy project “Ultrafast polarization phenomena with multicolor optical fields and two-photon detection”.
Requirements
- MSc. in physics
- Good written and oral communication skills in English
- Good understanding of basic optics
- Experience in experimental physics and numerical simulations
- Strong motivations to learn new skills, solve new problems and develop new scientific methods
Duration and salaryThe successful candidate should start in October 2017 or as soon afterwards as possible. The position is fixed-term. The doctoral candidate will first be granted a two-year contract, followed by an extension for another two-year period after intermediate evaluation.
The annual total workload of research and teaching staff at Aalto University is 1624 hours. The position will be located at the Aalto University Otaniemi Campus. The expected starting salary for a PhD candidate is approx. 2400 €/month and follows the university salary system. The contract includes Aalto University occupational health care.
