Detail information about job Post-Doctoral Training Fellow. Terms and conditions vacancy

Fixed Term for 4 years

We are seeking a talented postdoctoral researcher to work in a team investigating the role of cilia in development and disease, led by Dr Dominic Norris at the MRC Harwell Institute. You should be highly motivated, with an understanding of genetics and an interest in using the mouse as a model system. You will drive research investigating the genetics, cell biology and developmental biology of left-right patterning and kidney disease.

Research will involve a wide range of techniques, including cell biology, mouse embryology, microscopy/confocal imaging, RNA extraction and qPCR analysis of gene expression, cell and embryo culture and the design of sophisticated mouse mutagenesis experiments, in addition to routine molecular techniques (DNA cloning, sequencing, genotyping etc.).

The post is a MRC Postdoctoral Scientist.  This role aims to support post-doctoral training and help establish successful research scientists in their chosen field. During the fellowship tenure, we are committed to provide mentorship for career development and improvement of communication skills.

To join us, you will need:

  • PhD (or in the final stages of obtaining) in an appropriate discipline such as Genetics or Biochemistry
  • Hands-on experience in genetics research, cell biology or developmental biology
  • A proven track-record (e.g. publications/presentations at meetings) in carrying out scientific research to an international standard

Choosing to come to work at the MRC means that you will have access to a whole host of benefits from a final salary pension scheme and excellent holiday entitlement, to employee shopping/travel discounts and salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme and childcare vouchers.
