City seeks to recruit a part-time Academic Learning Support Tutor who will work in the Academic Learning Support Service, which is part of the multi-disciplinary Learning Success Team sitting in the Department of Learning Enhancement and Development (LEaD). This is a part time 0.2 FTE role, working from September to April (Semesters 1 and 2).

ResponsibilitiesThe post holder will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to develop and deliver support to students who are at risk of dropping out or under-achieving as a result of difficulties adapting to study in the Higher Education environment.

They will also contribute to the development and delivery of projects targeting students from under-represented groups, and plan and deliver 1:1 support sessions, workshop provision and on-line resources which enable students to become independent effective learners and fully engage with the curriculum.

Person SpecificationEducated to degree level or equivalent, the role holder will also have a postgraduate teaching qualification. Experience of delivering learning support to students in a post school learning environment, an up-to-date knowledge of specialist learning support, and the ability to critically evaluate different forms of support provision is also required. They will also have an understanding of the issues relating to widening participation in Higher Education.

Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills are required together with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prioritise a busy workload. The role holder will be well organised with good IT skills (including experience of VLEs such as Moodle), and the ability to develop online learning support resources. They must be able to work alone and as part of a team.
