Applications are invited for the post of Laboratory Manager within the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science.
The post-holder will be expected to manage all daily aspects of the teaching and research laboratories and/or performing high-quality experimental work in an multi-disciplinary research centre. She/he will aid in the training of staff and students in cell culture and/or specialised equipment as described in the job description. The postholder will manage tissue culture laboratories and manage the provision of equipment facilities for internal and external users, and contribute towards cutting edge research under the guidance of academic staff members.
The post holder will have supervisory responsibility for the day-to-day coordination, running, and maintenance of the laboratory, and co-ordinate research activities in relation to characterisation equipment. She/he will be expected to manage all daily aspects of the teaching and research laboratories, including the supervision of laboratory technicians, and assist academic staff and principal investigators (PIs) in day-to-day duties, ensuring the smooth running of the laboratory and research facilities.
The postholder must have a degree in relevant subject area, although candidates with considerable experience will be considered. Experience in laboratory management in a scientific or biomedical environment, experience in supervising and training staff/students, and extensive experience in tissue and cell culture, biomaterials characterisation (e.g. SEM, Mechanical Testing, etc.) are all essential. The postholder must have effective laboratory management skills, and organisational skills, have the ability to train and support staff and students in diverse portfolio of cell culture and equipment techniques, and have effective communication skills both orally and in writing with people from all levels and backgrounds.
