Detail information about job PhD studentship (Home/EU Fees only) in Improving Disability Access with Capital Hospitals Ltd & Skanska Facilities Services Ltd based at St Barts & the Royal London Hospital London.. Terms and conditions vacancy

Applications are invited for a partial PhD studentship (3 years) to research a topic related to the Disability Access work of the UCL Institute for Digital Innovation in the Built Environment (iDIBE) within The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment. This will be in the general area of digital healthcare facilities management, asset management, PFI management, costing and modelling tools relating to the improvement of disability access to hospitals and other similar environments. The UCL project team will provide guidance on the exact topic providing that an applicant can demonstrate original thinking and motivation to research in this subject area. The student will be supervised jointly by Professor Michael Pitt (UCL, iDIBE), and a member of the Capital Hospitals and/or Skanska FS asset management team (industrial supervisor).

The Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment at UCL, University College London, is internationally recognised as one of the UK’s leading research centres in the built environment. iDIBE was launched in August 2016 as a response to the challenges of the development and application of digital innovation within built environment operations.

The studentship will be based at the St Barts Hospital in London and will involve some day to day routine work to acquire essential industrial skills and knowledge. The studentship will be subject to regular performance review upon which continued funding will depend.

The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree in a built environment, finance, computing, engineering or an appropriate business related field.

Applications are particularly invited from persons with a recognised disability and/or with a particular knowledge of the challenges surrounding the subject area.

Research Topic

The Research Student will be involved in assisting the Capital Hospitals Ltd team with the development of some aspect of the management of the St Barts Hospital PFI contract. The key research areas will be in disability access in facilities management, advice to operations and the development of digital systems enabling more effective access for disabled persons to the built assets.

The student will be required to submit a full research proposal to the UCL Research Committee for approval to commence the project prior to January 2018. It is a condition of the award that the student is able to satisfy the Bartlett Research Committee of the suitability/rigour of both the researcher (the student) and the project.

The studentship will cover home/EU tuition fees in addition to a small travel allowance.

To apply, please write to Prof Michael Pitt at the address below with a covering letter and a full CV (including contact details for at least two academic referees plus marks/grades achieved on current courses). The covering letter should outline your interest in researching the suggested topic.

The closing date for applications is 30th October 2017. Interviews will be held in November 2017. The project is expected to commence in January 2018. Any inquiries or further information about the studentship should be emailed to [email protected]
