Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Associate in Arthropod-Arbovirus Interactions (Grade 7). Terms and conditions vacancy
We are seeking a virologist or cell biologist to join a BBSRC-funded project entitled “ARBONET Epidemiological models for control of arboviral disease for Europe”. This is part of an EU ANIHWA ERA-Net research project led by the Karolinska Institute (KI) in Sweden, focussing on three important arboviral pathogens that are already present in, or threaten to invade, Europe. IGH leads a work package on “Interaction with Vectors”; the aim is to establish general platforms for in vitro and in vivo studies on up-and down-regulation of genes in response to viruses in tick and mosquito cells in order to understand the biology of the infection. Based in the Tick Cell Biobank, you will establish generally-applicable protocols for studying the response to viruses in tick cell lines using BSL2 arboviruses as models for tick-borne Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV), and for mosquito-borne West Nile and Rift Valley fever viruses (both experimentally tick-transmitted). You will carry out interactomics studies in collaboration with KI on tick cells infected with Hazara virus and CCHFV, attend project meetings, and contribute to writing reports and manuscripts for publication. You will be highly-motivated, with a PhD in cell biology, virology, and/or vector-pathogen interactions, preferably with “-omics” experience. Capacity to travel within Europe, including a period of several weeks’ secondment in Sweden, is essential. The post is available until 18 May 2019.
