At the heart of Scotland's inspiring capital, the Business School at Edinburgh Napier University is seeking to a full-time Associate Professor in Accounting, Finance or Financial Services. The School plans to develop a range of new programmes over the next two years with the vision to be a leading (top 5% in the world) Accredited Business School renowned for its excellent teaching, research, global reach and impact.

The Accountancy, Finance and Law subject, one of the four subject groups within the Business School consists of four discipline areas: Accounting & Governance, Finance & Risk, Banking, and Law. Our Accounting & Finance ranked third out of 103 institutions in the UK for student satisfaction and overall Accounting & Finance ranked among top 10 UK modern Universities (6th of 53 in the Complete University Guide 2017). We currently offer a strong portfolio of undergraduate, postgraduate and international programmes.

The Role

We seek to appoint an established and motivated academic in Accounting, Finance or Financial Services to provide leadership and line management in relation to the staff and activities within the Subject as well as wider aspects of teaching and research in disciplines areas.

You will mainly be responsible for managing a discipline area with eight staff and leading the development of postgraduate programmes, CPD and KTP within the Subject. In addition, you will be required to conduct individual and collaborative research within the Business School or elsewhere within the University, contributing to the production of high quality research outputs/outcomes.

You will contribute to the University's objective of growing our academic reputation for research-informed student learning. Some travel will be required as a number of our programmes/modules are delivered internationally. You will be required to work independently and as part of a team.

You will have excellent communication skills and effective interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, listen, engage and inspire others.

Who We Are Looking For

You must have:

  • Academic qualification in relevant discipline at least to postgraduate level and either a Doctoral level qualification or a relevant professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CFA, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAS).
  • Evidence of staff management experience.
  • Evidence of generating external funding and/or successfully developing research collaborations.
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of experience in specialism to develop high quality teaching/learning and research programmes and have experience of research-led teaching and/or training.
  • Management / leadership of academic programmes / projects.
  • Demonstrable evidence of a teaching specialisation.
