The University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), based at Madingley Hall, provides adult part-time students with a gateway to the academic excellence of Cambridge.  Whether supporting learning for professional development or personal enrichment, ICE’s role is to form and sustain accessible, welcoming and diverse communities of learning and collaboratively design and deliver responsive short courses and award-bearing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in close partnership with the Collegiate University.

We now seek to appoint a dynamic Director of Teaching and Learning to ensure that all of our courses optimally enable our students to achieve their educational goals.

Responsible for leading the translation of ICE’s strategy into a broad portfolio of academically rigorous and market-relevant academic courses, and reporting to the Director of Continuing Education,  the Director of Teaching and Learning will line manage the multidisciplinary team of Academic Directors and TEL specialists, including academic oversight of the Panel Tutor pool.

The successful candidate will be a driven and skilled academic leader, aware of current HE policy and market trends, qualified to doctoral level and preferably with a postgraduate qualification in teaching and learning. They will be able to demonstrate a clear interest in, and commitment to, continuing education.

With a facilitative and empowering style of effective line management and experienced in the leadership and management of innovative curriculum design, pedagogy / andragogy and assessment within established UK university settings, they will exhibit a student-centred, collaborative and commercially aware approach with an advanced understanding of quality assurance and continuous improvement within the QAA framework. They will also have a track record of delivering change management projects, effectively managing budgets and supporting organisational improvement and growth within the higher education sector.

Preferably, candidates will have first-hand involvement of developing pure and applied / professional courses in a range of fields and working with professional accrediting bodies.  They will have an appreciation of issues pertaining to student welfare including pastoral support and post-completion employability.
