We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join Dr Ewan Harrison in the Department of Medicine, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
The research assistant will work on a large cohort based study which aims to understand the biological basis of nasal carriage by the pathogen Staphylococcus aureus in using a combination of microbiology, microbiome analysis and genetic epidemiology.
This position offers an ideal opportunity for a highly motivated research assistant wishing to advance their career in laboratory microbiology.
You will have degree (or equivalent), theoretical and practical knowledge and ideally experience of microbiology and molecular biology, and good information technology skills. Experience in a diagnostic or research microbiology laboratory is highly desirable.
Responsibilities will include carrying out microbiology and molecular biology project work. This will include DNA extraction, PCR, bacterial culture and identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, data entry, preparing reagents, maintaining laboratory stocks, and assisting in the day-to-day running of the laboratory.
