Detail information about job Research Assistant. Terms and conditions vacancy

The Hannon laboratory at the CRUK Cambridge institute is looking for a skilful and dedicated laboratory technician (Research Assistant, grade 5) to join the IMAXT team, a research group working on an ambitious project to produce molecularly annotated maps of solid tumours. The project is funded through one of the Cancer Research UK "Grand Challenge" grants (more information here https://imaxt.cruk.cam.ac.uk)

The selected candidate will work on a part of the project aimed at the production of a collection of highly specific single-chain antibodies against cancer markers and antigens, through the screening of complex libraries of single-chain antibodies by in-vitro display techniques. The candidate will assist other members of the team in producing the libraries, setting up the screening methodology, and identifying and testing the final products. The antibodies obtained by this project will be used to analyse tumour samples by a variety of experimental techniques.

The successful candidate should have a good theoretical knowledge in molecular biology, and excellent practical skills in molecular cloning, molecular biology and mammalian cell culture. Prior experience in a molecular biology laboratory is required, and prior experience with the production and handling of complex plasmid libraries would be advantageous.

In addition to this, the candidate should be able to work independently and to manage his/her own workload, while at the same time interacting efficiently with the research team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a strong requirement.

The position is initially offered for one year with potential for renewal.

The post is available immediately and will be held in the IMAXT laboratory, a research team at the Cambridge Institute, under the overall management of Dr. Gregory Hannon.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 years in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check and a security check.
