About the role:

We seek a talented and enthusiastic individual to join the vibrant Marine Systems Modelling group at NOC in Southampton. This post is part of the newly funded Global Challenges Research Fund project SOLSTICE which will be working with nine coastal countries in the Western Indian Ocean to build capacity in the integration of science, economics and policy to better manage their fisheries.

As the successful candidate you will design and implement the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) program to demonstrate beneficial impact of the project research activities in developing countries including: capacity development, technology adoption, socio-economic impact and policy formulation. You will ensure the M&E activities and indicators developed are in line with the project’s vision, the needs and expectations of our Western Indian Ocean Project Partners and Official Development Assistance objectives. You will  co-ordinate and collate monitoring and impact data across the project and case study areas,  analyse data, evaluate project impact and write quarterly/annual M&E reports. You will identify potential strategies for improving efficiency and effectiveness of the project and update the logic framework.

We expect that at the end of the project, you will be fully integrated into the NOC research environment and will actively engage in generating follow-on funding in the general area of the application of NOC expertise and technologies in developing countries.

The ideal candidate will have: in-depth knowledge of effective M&E systems and application; PhD or significant relevant work experience in Economics, Business Administration or related field; use of alternative data collation tools for M&E activities (including surveys, questionnaires); statistical software (e.g. SPSS, R); experience in designing tools and strategies for M&E data collection, analysis and production of reports; M&E experience in capacity building in the WIO preferably relevant to environmental sciences; experience in evaluation of technical adoptions; numerical and statistical skills for data analysis; designing and using data collection tools which are relevant to context and sensitive to different cultures;  advanced communication and facilitation skills.

The post will require frequent travel to the countries of the Western Indian Ocean.

This is a Fixed Term Appointment for four years.

Salary:

This is a Band 6/5 position, depending upon skills and experience. The salary for a Band 6 will be between £28,200 and £32,130 per annum. The salary for a Band 5 will be between £35,222 and £40,166 per annum.
