The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) is a leading global organisation for research, teaching and communication on international development, and is based on the University of Sussex campus surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Sussex South Downs.
We are seeking to recruit a highly-motivated Research Assistant to join two project teams working within the Business, Markets and the State Cluster. The Research Assistant will report to the Research Fellows acting as Project Leads, and will work closely with research teams across two projects ‘Linking Participation and Economic Advancement’ and ‘Policy Approaches to Business Investment in Agricultural Commercialisation’.
The project teams require a researcher with a good general background in economic development. Knowledge of either participation and participatory approaches or the agriculture sector, particularly commercialisation of smallholder farming, is desirable. The successful applicant will need to be able to respond flexibly but rigorously across these subject areas, reviewing data and assessing the strength of evidence, mapping and analysing case examples, and presenting the findings is a structured way with good attention to detail. Applicants will have or be near to completing a master's degree in related subject, preferably development economics, business studies or business in development.
IDS’ vision is a world in which poverty does not exist, social justice prevails and the voices of all people are heard in national and international institutions. We believe that generating, mobilising and sharing knowledge, through research, teaching and communications plays a key part in realising this vision.
Please note this role is pending confirmation of funding.
