The IT Services department is accountable for a range of mission-critical services and systems and state of the art technical infrastructure that facilitates all aspects of teaching, learning, research and the day-to-day running of a large organisation. The University has extensive application and technical architectures on an enterprise scale delivering services to over 5,000 PCs running circa 550 applications, with over 400 physical and virtual servers on the University network which is used by more than 25,000 students and 2,000 staff.  The underlying application landscape is based on current versions of enterprise-class applications, such as Oracle E-Business Suite, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, enterprise systems used in association with Teaching and Research, extensive development around our digital proposition, including the corporate website. The underpinning  infrastructure is based on the latest Windows Server and Red Hat Linux systems housed in two class leading data centres operating effectively a hybrid cloud.

Thanks to an ambitious growth plan, focused on providing an exceptional student experience by providing high quality teaching supported by ground breaking research, LJMU is an exciting and challenging place to build a career. The University embraces technology to the positive advantage of staff, students and partners, and its IT function is looking to expand with the recruitment of a variety of roles, primarily associated with project delivery.

The Project Manager will work in a team that is responsible for the concurrent delivery of a wide range of projects in support of the University’s rolling Project Portfolio. You will have a hands-on approach to the management and delivery of projects. The projects will cover a wide spectrum, including the development of new functionality in existing systems, the procurement and implementation of new systems (both hosted and SaaS) and occasionally, the delivery of major pieces of infrastructure work such as implementing a new telephony system and unified communications solution. You will be assisted by range of colleagues including business analysts, developers, testers, a Project Support Officer and Infrastructure platform teams.

While the majority of projects will be those that increase business capability through development of the existing system landscape, you must be able to evidence good project management skills and experience with a range of techniques against a variety of projects of varying scale, using methodologies best suited to match the needs of the individual project and the University. The role will also involve liaising with a variety of stakeholders and senior sponsors, and helping to develop as well as using the agreed methodologies and governance.

You will contribute to the high quality delivery across the entire IT services portfolio. This will involve all aspects of project management including: identifying solution options during feasibility studies; procuring services to deliver the agreed solutions, proposing specific projects via business cases and ensuring approved projects are delivered to a high standard, with excellent engagement and communication with all key stakeholders (both immediate and extended).
