Detail information about job Scientific Officer - In Vivo. Terms and conditions vacancy

The Institute of Cancer Research, London, is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes, with an outstanding record of achievement dating back more than 100 years. We provided the first convincing evidence that DNA damage is the basic cause of cancer, laying the foundation for the now universally accepted idea that cancer is a genetic disease. Today, The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) leads the world at isolating cancer-related genes and discovering new targeted drugs for personalised cancer treatment.

Under the leadership of our Chief Executive, Professor Paul Workman FRS, the ICR is ranked as the UK’s leading academic research centre. Together with our partner The Royal Marsden, we are rated in the top four cancer centres globally.

The ICR is committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world to join us in our mission – to make the discoveries that defeat cancer.

Scientific Officer – Paediatric Solid Tumour Biology and Therapeutics Team

The Paediatric Solid Tumour Biology and Therapeutics Team under the leadership of Professor Louis Chesler, MD, PhD, FRCPCH, is internationally recognized and at the forefront of the field of developing novel mouse models and using molecular biology and preclinical imaging analyses to better understand childhood solid tumours. Importantly, we then specialize in using this knowledge to design and test new drug and new drug combination treatments. It is our ultimate goal to translate our preclinical findings into the paediatric clinic to increase the survival of children with cancer.

We currently have an exciting opening for a highly experienced and motivated Scientific Officer who specialises in in vivo modeling and pre-clinical therapeutics.

The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for maintaining and characterising genetically engineered murine models of paediatric tumours and organizing, performing, and reporting on pre-clinical trials. This will include, but is not limited to, animal handling and health monitoring, drug administration, xenograft/allograft/orthotopic modeling, and accurate database keeping and maintenance.

Experience of working with animals is essential, together with knowledge and ability to perform standard laboratory in vivo and in vitro techniques. Additionally, applicants are expected to be experienced in reagent/drug administration, accurate record keeping and trial management within the in vivo settingand UK home office requirements. A keen interest in the field of cancer research and therapeutics is critical.

The appointment will be on a Fixed Term Contract for up to 2 years in first instance with further extension potential available dependent upon funding. The starting salary will be in the range of £25,400 to £31,602 per annum inclusive based upon relevance of skills and experience.

Please note only candidates with in vivo/mouse modelling experience should apply for this position. The team is currently recruiting for an in vitro Scientific Officer where in vivo expertise is not critical to the role.

Informal enquiries can be made via email to Regan Barfoot ([email protected]). Please note this address is for enquiries only and you should not send your application to this email address.

To apply please upload your CV and covering letter (addressing with specific examples how you meet the person specification and incl. the names and addresses of two referees) online at http://www.icr.ac.uk/careers

We consider all applications on merit and have a strong commitment to enhancing the diversity of our staff.
