Detail information about job Research Fellow (78572-087). Terms and conditions vacancy

Funding at level 6 (£28,982 - £37,768) is available for 30 months, this might have to be shortened to 29 months depending on the starting salary of the successful candidate.

Funding after 23.03.20 is subject to the BBSRC’s approval to extend the project.

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position to study the mechanistic basis of chloroplast immunity in the laboratories of Prof. Murray Grant and Dr Alex Jones. The project will investigate chloroplast immunity, with a key focus on how the early chloroplast localised reactive oxygen burst is activated by innate immune receptors and how bacterial pathogen effectors attenuate this burst focusing on suppression of photosynthesis and the role of pathogen induced ABA in this process (see de Torres et al. 2015, Nature Plants). This multidisciplinary project combines chlorophyll fluorescence, genetically encoded reporters, pharmacological and biophysical approaches to study a fundamental process of plant defence. The biophysical studies involve cross-institutional collaboration with colleagues in Germany.

Applicants should have a PhD in biochemistry/plant science or a related discipline or an equivalent level of professional expertise. Experience in plant pathology and biochemistry or confocal microscopy are essential. Hands-on experience of plant transformation, whole plant imaging and yeast 2-hybrid/in vivo immunoprecipitation is highly desirable. Previous experience in chloroplast biology would be advantageous.

Informal enquired should be directed to Prof. Murray Grant at [email protected].

If you have not yet been awarded your PhD but are near submission or have recently submitted your PhD, any offers of employment will be made as Research Assistant on level 5 of the University grade structure (£28,453 pa). Upon successful award of your PhD and evidence of this fact, you will be promoted to Research Fellow on the first point of level 6 of the University grade structure (£29,301 pa).

Full details of the duties and selection criteria for this role are found in the vacancy advert on the University of Warwick jobs page. You will be routed to this when you click on the Apply button below.
