Research Associate - Organic/Polymer Chemistry X2

Fixed-term: The funds for these posts are available for 18 months in the first instance.

Applications are invited to join the research group of Dr Hugo Bronstein at the Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge as part of the Centre of Advanced Materials for Integrated Energy Systems (CAM-IES).  This project is based on the synthesis and characterization of novel conjugated organic materials for use in organic electronics.

The specific aim of the project is to design and synthesize conjugated polymers and small molecules which will allow exploitation of triplet excited states in organic solar cells. The primary aims are materials that can undergo singlet fission, reverse intersystem crossing or triplet-triplet annihilation up-conversion. The successful applicant will form a part of the newly created centre to synthesize materials which will be tested in collaboration with the other partners across the centre.

Applicants should have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in organic or polymer chemistry, a strong background in organic synthesis, be able to work effectively and sociably within a team and have an interest/knowledge in spectroscopy and materials science. Experience in conjugated polymer/small molecule synthesis and the ability to interact within an interdisciplinary research area are vital.
