You will work with Prof Steve Wedge on a project funded by a Strategic Alliance involving Cancer Research UK, Newcastle University and Astex Pharmaceuticals. You will be part of a team based within the Newcastle drug discovery group that will focus on validating and identifying new drug targets for oncology treatment.
You will have an undergraduate degree in a relevant science subject, preferably in a biological discipline or pharmacology, and a PhD in the area of cancer research, cell biology or drug discovery. You will have experience of using gene editing techniques to manipulate target proteins in mammalian cells. You will be able to demonstrate evidence of writing high quality reports, problem solving ability and preparation of material for manuscripts for publication and grant applications.
You will possess excellent communication skills, the ability to supervise laboratory staff and have a high level of analytical skills. You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to identify and develop new technologies and methods relevant to the post.
