Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Associate. Terms and conditions vacancy
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate in the group of Dr. Atlanta Cook on structural and mechanistic studies of RNA binding proteins involved in Trypanosomal RNA insertion/deletion editing. This position, available for 3 years, is funded by the Wellcome Trust. Trypanosomal parasites are a major health and economic burden in the developing world. RNA insertion/deletion editing is essential to the survival of T. brucei during human infection and so presents a potential target for drug development. We aim to understand, at a mechanistic level, the interactions of these processing enzymes with their RNA substrates. The candidate will reconstitute protein-RNA complexes involved in RNA editing and use combined structural approaches (X-ray crystallography and single particle cryo-EM) to gain mechanistic insights into RNA editing.
We are seeking a dynamic, ambitious and focused individual with a PhD (or who will soon be awarded a PhD) in biochemistry, molecular biology or structural biology. The candidate will be a precise and careful experimentalist with excellent communication skills and an ability to work effectively as part of a team. A background in protein biochemistry and structural biology is essential. Prior experience working with protein-nucleic acid complexes will be an advantage.
