Part Time, Permanent - Professional Services
This is a part-time role (0.5 FTE) for 18.5 hours per week over 2.5 days based in the Metadata Services Team in Headington. The two full days are Thursday and Friday each week with the half day to be agreed with the successful candidate.
Duties to include:
- Updating item (holdings) level details of new physical materials received, using the library management system to access the bibliographic database
- Processing physical material received ready for adding to the Library, including labelling and book jacketing
- Quality control checking of newly processed library material before passing to academic liaison colleagues
- Assist the Metadata Librarians in project work as required
- Removing details of physical materials from the bibliographic database when they are no longer required by the Library
- Bibliographic database editing of item (holdings) level details for physical materials already in stock to satisfy, for example, site relocations, shelfmark (classification) changes, and loan category amendments
- Carrying out book repairs
- Carrying out stock check work on Headington physical materials to ensure bibliographic database content is consistent with physical items on the shelves.
You should have:
- Good general education with grade C or above GCSE Maths and English or equivalent
- Experience of library, archive, clerical or retail work, including face to face customer service
- Demonstrable customer care skills
- Able to demonstrate good communication skills, both written and oral
- Demonstrable interpersonal skills
- Able to demonstrate experience of working in a team and contributing to the effectiveness of a team
- Some experience of using computers, and a willingness to learn software and systems as appropriate
- Able to demonstrate the ability to work methodically and accurately, and good attention to detail.
