Research Assistant (PhD not awarded) £26,829 - £28,452 Research Associate (PhD awarded) £29,301 - £38,183

Please be advised that due to a new minimum salary threshold of £30,000 per annum imposed by the UKVI, this post may not qualify for University sponsorship under Tier 2 of the points based system.

Based in the laboratory of Professor James Allan within in the Northern Institute for Cancer Research, Newcastle University, a Bloodwise-funded post you will work on projects investigating the molecular genetics of acute myeloid leukaemia, including aetiology, prognostication and the development of novel therapies.

You will have an undergraduate degree in a relevant science subject, preferably biological/biomedical and a PhD in the area of biomedical sciences, cancer research, molecular biology or cell biology for appointment at associate level. You will have expertise in contemporary molecular and cell biology techniques (Western blotting, real-time PCR, cloning), cell culture, flow cytometry, lentiviral transduction and in vivo models (with appropriate approvals).

You will have experience of presenting work at scientific meetings and able to demonstrate capacity for original thought, in addition to having excellent communication and team-working skills.

The position is available from October 1st 2017 for 12 months.
