West Cambridge

A position exists for a Research Assistant/Research Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on supply chain analysis and design in product sectors where new technologies, processes and source materials present opportunities to re-configure existing operations.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The key responsibilities and duties are:

  • International manufacturing supply network
  • Developments in international operations management
  • Network capability development
  • Network research methods development
  • Industry sector studies
  • Industry transformation and dynamic capabilities
  • Modelling and mapping end-to-end supply chains
  • Development of network configuration
  • Analysis of disruptive supply networks

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are a PhD in Engineering or related scientific discipline (or close to obtaining a PhD) plus an undergraduate and a masters' degree in a relevant scientific/engineering area. An essential requirement is research experience in all or some of the following areas: international supply chains, operations management, international manufacturing, supply and value network mapping, network optimisation and simulation, business model analysis, scenario analysis, or dynamic transformational capabilities. A proven ability to communicate with academic and industrial partners is also desired, together with a record of publishing high quality research in high quality journals.

An additional requirement is that candidates must be able to define and manage their own work load, collaborate effectively both within the research group and externally, be able to work in a team, support PhD students, stick to deadlines and communicate to a range of audiences.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £25,298 - £30,175; Research Associate: £30,175 -£38,183

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
