The College wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the EU-wide Horizon 2020-funded ‘Seas, Oceans and Public Health in Europe (SOPHIE): a Strategic Research Agenda for Europe and Beyond’ project. SOPHIE is concerned with identifying the risks and benefits to population health from interacting with the marine environment and working with key stakeholders and the public to identify unanswered questions and areas for new research linking the marine environment and public health.
The current post has two key roles, to support: a) a synthesis of current evidence and policies on human health and the marine environment; and b) the development and analysis of data from a pan-European survey on citizen beliefs and attitudes towards the health risks and benefits of marine environments. The post-holder will join a multi-disciplinary team on the project including (evidence synthesis, psychology, epidemiology, and environmental/health economics) based at the University of Exeter Truro Campus (Cornwall, UK). There will also be a 0.5 FTE project manager and a full time PhD student working alongside the team for the duration.
All candidates must have a PhD in evidence synthesis, psychology, sociology, epidemiology, health research, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research experience and knowledge. You will have knowledge and experience of a range of research methods including systematic review and evidence synthesis and/or analysis and interpretation of large datasets, and public surveys. Experience in research design and analysis in the domain of health, wellbeing and/or the environment is desirable. Due to the time-limited nature of the project the ideal candidate will already have many of the essential and desirable skills as there will be limited opportunity for new training.
