Are you an enthusiastic and motivated researcher with an interest applying novel approaches to solving air quality challenges? Would you like to use computational fluid dynamics models and sensors to improve indoor environments in hospitals and office environments? Are you interested in the opportunity to gain experience working in a cross-disciplinary team with partners in UK universities, the NHS and industry?
You will play a key role in two EPSRC funded projects to develop and test a new sensor-driven real-time computational model for predicting indoor airflows. Over the first year you will predominantly work on the Refresh project, testing the reliability of sensor positioning in indoor environments and the relationship between measured and modelled parameters. Here you will work with partners in Southampton and Reading Universities to develop approaches to present indoor air sensor data to occupants. You will also work on the HECOIRA project over the duration of the post to develop a coupled sensor-computational model to simulate indoor airflows in hospitals and predict the influence of operational changes in real-time. You will work with the academic team and external partners in the NHS and industry to assess how this new tool can be deployed in real hospital environments.
Holding a PhD (or be close to completion) or equivalent experience in an engineering or science discipline, you will have experience of developing and applying computational simulations and/or electrical sensing applications.
The post will be jointly supervised between Professor Cath Noakes, Dr Amirul Khan (Civil Engineering), and Dr Andy Kemp (Electrical and Electronic Engineering).
