Detail information about job Post-doctoral Research Assistant, Ministerial Theology. Terms and conditions vacancy

We are looking for a Research Assistant in Ministerial Theology to be the principal fieldworker for the project Signs of Wonder: Iconography and Aesthetic Practices of New Black Majority Churches. Signs of Wonder aims to investigate the theology embedded in the visual expressions and aesthetic practices of new black majority churches (nBMCs), primarily located in the London Borough of Southwark. The project will build on existing work by the lead investigators, Dr Andrew Rogers and Dr Richard Burgess, with the aim of informing a more nuanced understanding of nBMCs for a range of publics.

Applicants should have completed a PhD in Theology or similar, with experience of conducting fieldwork in theology, especially research interviews. Previous research experience of working with African majority churches would be beneficial, as well as a good knowledge of Pentecostalism. The role holder will be based on the main campus at the University of Roehampton, with most of the fieldwork located in the London Borough of Southwark. The project is funded by the Southlands Methodist Trust and this temporary role is anticipated as 147 hours over 4 months, from 1 October 2017 until 31 January 2018.

Roehampton has a growing reputation for its work in many forms of Christian Theology, including a number of scholars with expertise in black majority churches and Pentecostalism. Ministerial Theology at Roehampton is now celebrating its tenth year, and is associated with a number of research centres at the University, including the Research Group in Ministerial Theology.

The University of Roehampton is the most research intensive modern university in the UK, with some of the highest regarded academic departments in the country. This is an exciting time for the university, with investment in new curricula, the construction of a new state-of-the-art library and student accommodation, the development of a number of external partnerships across the globe and plans for doctoral scholarships.

We have a strong emphasis on supporting our students to reach their full potential in order to launch themselves onto successful graduate careers. We are ranked the best modern university in London in major UK league tables and we are embarking on a radical programme of enhancement in learning and teaching across all our academic areas.

The University has a beautiful, vibrant parkland campus, is located in the heart of south-west London and offers excellent facilities for researching, learning, teaching, and working.

If you are interested in the post and would like to discuss the project further, please contact either: [email protected] or [email protected].

It is expected that interviews will be held on: Thursday 21 September 2017

The University is an equal opportunities and ‘disability confident’ employer.
