Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Associate in Cell Biology. Terms and conditions vacancy

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate funded by the Wellcome Trust in the laboratory of Prof Hiro Ohkura at the Wellcome Centre for Cell Biology in the University of Edinburgh. The laboratory investigates fundamental mechanisms of chromosome segregation using Drosophila as a model system (http://ohkura.bio.ed.ac.uk). We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented researcher to join our team investigating the molecular regulation of the spindle microtubules and chromosome organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity to engage in a variety of exciting projects combining in vivo and in vitro approaches including live-imaging microscopy, genetics, mass-spectrometry and biochemistry. The projects include regulation of chromatin organisation by histone modifications and epigenetics, spatial and temporal control of kinesins and microtubule-associated proteins by phosphorylation and ubiquitination, kinetochore-microtubule interaction, and key differences between two modes of cell division, mitosis and meiosis.

Our studies will also have medical impacts on the understanding of infertility and aneuploidy in human reproduction and aneuploidy in cancer.

You should have, or will shortly obtain, a PhD in a relevant subject area and have experience in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and/or cell biology. An outstanding research record is essential and at least one recent or forthcoming first author publication in a prominent journal is expected. The position is available from 1 October 2017 for 36 months with a possibility of renewal.
