Detail information about job Postdoctoral Scientist in RNA Virus/Host Cell Interactions. Terms and conditions vacancy

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist with experience and interest in virology to work on a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator Award, led by Peter Simmonds. The planned work represents a major investigation of the influence of genome wide properties of human, veterinary and plant RNA viruses, such as dinucleotide composition and RNA structure, on their interactions with cellular defence mechanisms, host response and evolutionary fitness. Understanding recognition and response mechanisms to these global configurations of RNA viruses will provide a new framework for understanding their relationship with viral pathogenesis and transmission.

As our Postdoctoral Scientist in RNA virus/host cell interactions, you will be responsible for a wide variety of experimental systems. These include investigation of cellular interactions of viral genomes with the innate immune system, pathway analysis of cellular factors that restrict replication of viruses with high CpG and UpA frequencies and characterisation of recognition mechanisms for structured and unstructured RNA virus genomes. In addition, you will design and implement of virus transmission experiments to determine fitness correlates of virulence and effects of virus modification.

You will hold a PhD in the general area of virology/immunology or be near completion. You will have experience with virus and cell culture, as well as standard molecular cloning techniques. It would be advantageous to have experience in pathway analysis, interactomes and mass spectrometry.

The post is full-time and fixed-term until 29 February 2020.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your online application.

Only applications received before 12.00 midday on Wednesday 20 September 2017 will be considered.

Please note that the University of Oxford's retirement policy is changing. With effect from 1 October 2017, all employees at Grade 8 and above will have a retirement age of 68, and all employees at Grades 6 and 7 will no longer have a set retirement age.
