The Institute of Dentistry (IoD) has been conducting internationally recognised research in oral and dental sciences for more than a century. It is the top rated UK Dental School for quality of dental research, as assessed in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and is currently ranked 1st in the Complete University Guide and 2nd in the Guardian League tables (2018). In 2014 the new £78 million Royal London Dental Hospital and QMUL Dental School opened, incorporating some of the most technologically advanced dental facilities in the country.
The IoD is one of six Institutes in the School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD), located primarily on our Whitechapel site. It is comprised of five academic centres, employs more than 170 staff (circa 77 FTE) and currently offers two undergraduate and 12 postgraduate taught programmes, with a combined cohort of circa 500 students. With unrivalled heritage, a truly diverse clinical population and state of the art facilities, it continues to deliver the highest quality training to our undergraduates, postgraduates, researchers and staff.
Queen Mary University of London is now seeking the next Dean for Dentistry and Director, Institute of Dentistry to lead this prominent Institute, build on its achievements and foster excellence and innovation across all areas of key strategic priority. Reporting to the Vice-Principal (Health) and working closely with the Directors of the SMD’s other constituent Institutes, you will provide leadership in support of the development and delivery of SMD and Queen Mary’s strategic plans; in particular you will demonstrate commitment to high quality expansion of both the Institute’s research base and education portfolio and build on opportunities associated with potential pan-London partnerships. Applicants should hold a relevant doctoral degree, have extensive experience of dental research and education and sound knowledge of NHS relationships with respect to dental education.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
