Do you want to join an agency that fights against gender inequality and prioritises protection of women and girls in humanitarian crises? Do you believe that research in the humanitarian sector should have a practical focus?

Why work for us?

CARE is looking for a Gender and Protection Researcher for an exciting new 10-month project, funded by OFDA, on Learning and best practices on local women's participation in protection programming. The aim of the project is to analyse how local and national women actors are engaging in protection programming to gain a deeper understanding of different protection risks that women and girls face and to identify best practices on collaborating with local women actors when implementing protection programming. The research involves field visits to Vanuatu and Malawi in collaboration with CARE country offices.

About the Role

The post holder will lead this research, working closely with CARE's Senior Gender and Protection Advisor, and will have the exciting opportunity to bring their practical experience, research skills and new ideas to ensure the delivery of the project. You will be responsible for planning and delivering all stages of research, leading field visits to Vanuatu and Malawi, providing high quality data collection and analysis and liaising with global forums including the Global Protection Cluster, GBV AoR and Child Protection AoR. You will be responsible for producing the following research outputs: full report with executive summary, practical tip-sheet for protection actors and other relevant publications including articles, blogs etc.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have field experience and a deep understanding of protection programming in humanitarian contexts and therefore will have first-hand understanding of the practical implications of this research. You will have skills in producing high-quality research, in collecting and analysing qualitative/quantitative data and you will be a creative thinker who is willing to challenge existing ways of working and propose new ways forward.

You will have some familiarity of the ways of working with women's associations on protection programming and you will be proactive in reaching out to colleagues to involve them in this study whether they are grassroots women activists, global protection cluster members, GBV specialists, CARE staff etc.

About CARE
